Dr Mitch Harper

PhD, BA (hons.) and BSc

In my undergrad, I studied courses on philosophy, literature and creative writing, and afterwards received a dual-PhD in philosophy from UNSW and Université Paris Nantarre. I’ve taught classes on philosophy and writing at both these institutions, and presented my research at national and international conferences in Sydney, Melbourne, London, Istanbul, Paris and Manipal.

With over 10 years experience teaching HSC English (both privately and at écriture in Chatswood), I bring a depth of knowledge on English and World literature, literary analysis and theory, and essay and creative writing. I have a thorough understanding of the HSC syllabus and prescribed texts, know exactly what HSC markers look for, and have taught students from the top schools in Sydney. All in all, I’ve helped 200+ students achieve high results in English, from scoring Band 6s to attaining a state rank.

Aside from instructing students on how to improve their marks, I teach English because I love reading and writing. My goal is to educate students so they appreciate the texts they study and ultimately become better readers, writers, critical thinkers and communicators.
